Book the Earliest Slot You Can: Last entry is 17:30, half an hour before the palace closes at 18:00. An early start also means quieter rooms before the tour groups arrive.
Use the Included Audio Guide in Every Room: Several rooms carry little text on the walls, so the audio guide is where the history actually comes through. It is provided free with your ticket.
Walk the Gardens Even If You Are Short on Time: The Sunken Garden and the Diana memorial fountain sit in the public grounds around the palace and cost nothing to see. Take them in before or after the ticketed rooms.

Outside food and drinks are not permitted inside the palace.
Photography for personal, non-commercial use is allowed. Tripods and selfie sticks are not permitted, and commercial photography needs advance permission.
