Insider Tips

  • Catch the Early Lorikeet Feeding: Free lorikeet feeding happens near the main entrance around 8 am, so aim for an early start if you want to see it.
  • Check the Show Times When You Arrive: The bird show and other presentations run once or twice a day, so a look at the board near the entrance stops you missing the one you came for.
  • Use the Free Train to Cover the Grounds: Unlimited rides on the miniature train are included with your entry, and hopping on between exhibits saves your legs on what is a big site to walk.

FAQs

  • What are the opening hours?

The sanctuary is open every day from 9 am to 4 pm, with last admission at 3.30 pm. The Astra Lumina night trail runs on Friday and Saturday evenings, with extra nights added during school holidays.

  • Can I hold a koala or feed kangaroos?

Yes. Koala photo sessions and kangaroo feeding are available on site for an extra fee, not included in your ticket, and spaces are limited, so booking ahead is worthwhile if either is on your list.

  • Can I buy tickets at the gate, or is it cheaper to book online?

Tickets are also sold at the sanctuary’s entrance, but booking your visit here in advance saves you time queuing at the gate on arrival.

  • Is the miniature train free to ride?

Yes. Unlimited rides on the sanctuary’s miniature trains are included with your entry ticket, and they are a convenient way to get around the grounds between exhibits.

  • Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Yes. You may bring your own bottled water, snacks and picnic food. Glass bottles are not permitted, and there are cafes and picnic areas on site if you would rather buy something.
