Insider Tips

  • Book the First Slot and Be Early: Even with a timed ticket there is an outdoor security queue in full sun, and the palace is at its most packed from late morning. Take the earliest slot you can, join the line for that time before it starts, and enter within the half hour after your slot or you can be refused.
  • See the Gardens Before You Scan In: The palace route is one way with no re-entry, and your ticket lets you back into the gardens only once. Walk the gardens first, then go to the palace for your slot.
  • Download the Official App First: The palace’s free app carries the audio commentary and the estate map. Load it on Wi-Fi before you leave Paris.
  • Leave the Trianon for Last: The Grand Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet are about 30 minutes on foot from the palace and open from midday most of the year. Do the palace and gardens first, then walk or take the paid little train out.

FAQs

  • Do I need to choose a date and time slot when I book?

Yes. Your ticket is for a fixed date and a timed entry to the palace, and you must enter within the half hour following that time. The gardens and the Estate of Trianon are not timed, so you can visit them before or after your palace slot on the same day.

  • Do tickets to Versailles sell out?

Morning slots can, in high season. Palace entry is timed and each slot has a fixed number of places, and the early slots are the first to go in summer and at weekends. Book ahead and take the earliest slot available; the palace is at its most crowded from late morning.
