Reserve the Children’s Gallery Before You Arrive: The under-fives play gallery is included in admission but runs in 50-minute timed sessions with a strict cap, and walk-ups get turned away or wait hours in school holidays. Book a free session online before you set out.
Bypass the Ticket Desk: The slow part of arriving is the sales queue, not entry. Save your voucher to your phone before you leave (the museum wifi crawls) and go straight to the pre-purchased entry point.
Come at 9am and Start in the Forest: Families fill the galleries from about 10:30. Spend the quiet first hour in the outdoor Forest Gallery, then move on to the dinosaurs before the school groups reach them.
Finish Before the Doors Close: The cafes shut an hour or more before the 5pm close and gallery doors start closing ahead of the announcement. Eat by 3:30 and be in your must-see gallery by 4:15.

FAQs

Can you buy Melbourne Museum tickets at the gate, or should I book in advance?
