Insider Tips

  • See The Kiss Before the Crowds: Klimt’s The Kiss hangs on the upper floor of the Upper Belvedere and draws a dense crowd of photographers as the day goes on. Head there close to the 9am opening for a clear view.
  • Walk the Gardens Anytime: The grounds between the Upper and Lower Belvedere are open to the public free of charge. Arrive early or linger afterward to enjoy them without using your gallery ticket time.

Rules:

  • Outerwear, umbrellas, backpacks, travel bags, and handbags are not allowed in the museum.
  • It is not possible to deposit suitcases. 
  • Bag checks take place occasionally.
  • Touching or damaging exhibits in any way is not allowed.
  • Please refrain from using your mobile phone or speaking loudly in the exhibition rooms to avoid disturbing other visitors.
  • Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the museum.
  • Animals (except guide dogs) are not allowed to be taken into the museum.
  • Food and beverages are not allowed in any of our exhibition rooms.
  • When entering the museum, visitors agree to abide by the house rules and safety regulations.

  • Access to the Upper and Lower Belvedere requires a valid time-slot ticket.
  • Free lockers are available for your convenience.
  • Enjoy a variety of food and drinks at Schlosscafé, Parkcafé, and Lucy Bar.
  • Lost property can be collected at the cloakroom, while valuables are at the security office.
  • Audio guides are available at the Upper Belvedere in Cantonese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian.
  • In the Lower Belvedere, audio guides for specific exhibitions are available in German and English.
  • Personal headphones (standard 3.5 mm connection) are welcome; disposable headphones can be purchased if available.
  • Belvedere encourages eco-friendly travel: easily accessible by public transport, with nearby electric car charging stations, bike station, and bike racks.
  • Photography and filming for personal, non-commercial use is allowed, as long as flash, tripods, and selfie sticks are not used, and exhibits are not disturbed.
  • The museum strives to be fully accessible to all visitors, with sensory-friendly resources for those with disabilities.
  • All restrooms are gender-neutral, promoting inclusivity.
  • To avoid crowds, we recommend visiting outside of peak hours (11 am to 2 pm). The Upper Belvedere opens at 9 am, and the Lower Belvedere at 10 am.
  • Seating is available in the exhibition rooms, and folding stools can be requested at the cloakroom.

  • Where can I see Klimt's The Kiss?

    The Kiss and the museum’s main Klimt collection are displayed in the Upper Belvedere, on the upper floor. The Lower Belvedere houses the palace’s temporary exhibitions.

  • Do I need a ticket to walk in the palace gardens?

    No. The gardens between the Upper and Lower Belvedere are open to the public free of charge. A ticket is required only for the museum galleries inside both buildings.
