  • Take the Earliest Slot You Can: Your ticket is for a fixed date and time, last entry is 5 pm and staff start clearing the galleries about 15 minutes before the 5:30 pm close. Four floors take well over three hours, so book a morning slot and go straight in.
  • Join the Free Tour First: Docent-led tours run daily, cost nothing with admission and need no booking. Check the day’s schedule at the desk as you arrive and take the highlights tour before you wander.
  • Start on Level 2 With Kids: Dinosaurs, the bat cave, the biodiversity hall and the play area are all on Level 2 and it fills up fastest. Head there first, then work through the culture floors with whatever time is left.
  • Pack Your Own Lunch: You can bring food in and eat it in the lower-level lunch room, and there are water fountains to refill a bottle. Drop heavy coats at the coat check before you start.

  • Photography is permitted in most areas, but flash and tripods are prohibited.
  • Touching artifacts is not allowed unless explicitly indicated in interactive exhibits.
