What are the hours of operation?

Operating hours vary by season. Ferries depart from San Francisco from 8:45 AM every 30–40 minutes. Return on any ferry. The island closes at 6:30 PM in summer and 4:30 PM in other seasons.
How's the weather?

The weather can change quickly and is often cooler than the mainland. Wear layers, as fog is common in summer and rain is frequent in winter.
Is there food to purchase on the island?

No food is available on the island. Snacks and drinks are sold on the ferry, and water refill stations are available. Eating is only allowed at the dock, and feeding birds is prohibited.
Are guided tours available?

Free daily guided tours are included with your ticket, covering Alcatraz's history, the prison, Native American occupation, and other key stories.
Are pets allowed on Alcatraz?
