Do Not Book a Tuesday: The palace is closed every Tuesday and the box office queue passes an hour on summer afternoons. Book another day and be at the Fountain of Ahmed III meeting point for the 9 AM opening.
Sort Out the Harem Early: The Harem and Hagia Irene have their own tickets, sold only at the counters inside. If your package excludes the Harem, buy it at the office inside before going further in.
Head for the Third Courtyard First: The Imperial Treasury and the Chamber of Sacred Relics have their own queues, reaching an hour by midday. See them first, then work back through the kitchens.
Bring Earphones: Neither the audio guide app nor the loaned device comes with headphones, and the device holds your passport as a deposit. Use the app on your own phone with wired earphones.
Eat Before You Enter: The halls are not air conditioned and there is no re-entry. Eat first, carry water and wear shoes for three hours on cobbles.

FAQs

Is Topkapi Palace open every day?

No. The palace and the Harem are closed on Tuesdays all year, so choose any other day when you book. On open days the gates open at 9 AM and the last tickets are issued in the late afternoon.
Is the Harem included in the ticket?

It depends on the package. The standard fast-track ticket covers the palace courtyards and museum halls but not the Harem, which is a separately ticketed section; the guided tour package on this page includes it. Harem tickets can otherwise be bought at the counters inside the palace.
How can I get skip-the-line tickets for Topkapi Palace?
