Insider Tips

Find the Line for Your Time Slot: Entry runs by booked time slot and the queues outside are poorly signed. Arrive 20 to 30 minutes early with photo ID for everyone and ask staff which line is yours.
Take the Lift to the Second Floor: The visit starts at the top after a long flight of stairs; the lift by the entrance saves your legs. Do the second floor first, then come down for Caravaggio’s Medusa on the first floor.
Walk Into the Side Rooms: The headline works hang in rooms off the two long corridors, not in the corridors. Step into every side room, and look up at the frescoed ceilings.
Book the Coolest Slot: There is no real air conditioning and summer afternoons turn hot and airless. Take the 8:15 AM opening slot, when the rooms are emptiest, and bring a folding fan.
Stop at the Windows: The corridor windows and the cafe terrace frame the Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo. Take five minutes there before leaving.

Know Before You Go

Entry and Services:

Anyone can enter the museum for free every first Sunday of the month.
This activity is wheelchair-accessible.
You must download the POP-Guide app on your smartphone before joining the tour.
The APP users must be provided with their smartphone.
You will receive an app code and the skip-the-line ticket from the museum staff at the meet-up location.
To collect the audio guide inside the museum, you have to show the original copy of your identity card or passport. They will keep your ID document until the end of the visit when you will return the audio guide.
Audioguide is not available for children aged 0-6.
The Uffizi is closed on Mondays, 1 January and 25 December.
Backpacks, umbrellas and large bags must be left in the free cloakroom just inside the entrance, and everyone passes a metal detector security check.

FAQs

Should I buy Uffizi Gallery tickets in advance?

Yes. Entry to the Uffizi is by reserved time slot, and in high season the slots for a given day sell out, so booking ahead is the only way to be sure of a place. The longest queue outside the gallery is the one for people trying to buy a ticket on the day.
Do I need to choose a date and time slot when I book?

Yes. Your ticket is for a fixed date and a timed entry slot, and it is issued in your name, so bring photo ID for everyone in the booking. Arrive 20 to 30 minutes before your slot to clear the security check.
Can I change my booking? What happens if I’m late?

You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your entry time, as set out in the cancellation policy above. If you miss your slot on the day, the gallery may admit you with a later group when there is room, but this is at the discretion of the staff and is not guaranteed.
Do children need a ticket for the Uffizi?

Yes, every person in your group needs their own ticket. Children aged 0 to 5 are free on the standard entry options here, and children aged 6 to 17 pay the child rate shown; ages are checked against ID at the entrance.
