Go to the North Door for Your Dome Slot: The dome climb starts at the Porta della Mandorla on the north side, not at the long free-entry queue in front of the facade, and your slot begins at the printed time sharp and cannot be moved on the day. Be there 15 minutes early.
Keep a Scarf in Your Bag: Shoulders and knees must be covered and the door staff turn people away, in summer too. Leave backpacks at the storage on Piazza Duomo 38/r before you queue.
Book the Coolest Climb: The 463 steps are narrow, one-way and without a lift, and the passage heats up by midday. Take an early morning or late afternoon slot and carry water.
Use All Three Days of the Pass: The nave is plain; the pass earns its price in the bell tower, with the best view of the dome itself, the museum with the original baptistery doors and Michelangelo’s Pietà, and the crypt with Brunelleschi’s tomb. Spread them across the three days.

Large bags and backpacks are not permitted inside.

Entry & Services:

Children aged 0+ will be charged the same rate as adults.
Children are permitted entry only with a regular ticket. Tickets cannot be purchased on-site.
This activity is not wheelchair-accessible.
The dome can only be accessed via stairs, as there is no lift.
The ticket for Giotto's Bell Tower, the Opera del Duomo Museum, and Santa Reparata is valid for 72 hours.
Entry to Santa Reparata is through Porta dei Cornacchini.
The selected timeslot is specifically for climbing the dome. The ticket also grants access to the other monuments in the complex, which you can visit at your own pace within the 3-day validity period. The validity begins at midnight on the date chosen for the skip-line entrance and does not require time reservations for the other sites.
Visitors to the Bell Tower, Florence Cathedral, Opera del Duomo Museum, and Santa Reparata must store suitcases, backpacks, parcels, medium or large bags, and similar items at the luggage storage located at Piazza Duomo 38/r.

FAQs

Is the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore free to enter?

Yes, the cathedral nave is free on the days it is open to sightseeing, but the free queue in front of the facade is one of the longest in Florence and the nave is closed to sightseeing on Sundays for worship. Climbing Brunelleschi’s Dome, the bell tower, the museum, the baptistery and the Santa Reparata crypt all need a paid pass, which is what this ticket is.
Do you need to book the Duomo dome climb in advance?

Yes. The dome climb runs on timed slots with limited places and sells out days to weeks ahead in high season. Your entry time is the start of the slot and it cannot be moved on the day, so book early and choose a time you can keep; the cancellation terms above apply before that.
What does the Brunelleschi Pass include?

A timed climb of Brunelleschi’s Dome plus entry to the cathedral, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Opera del Duomo Museum, the Baptistery and the Santa Reparata crypt. Only the dome climb is timed; the other monuments can be visited at your own pace within three calendar days of the date you select.
Is the dome climb suitable for children or anyone with mobility issues?

The climb is 463 narrow steps with no lift, and the Opera del Duomo advises against it for anyone with heart problems, vertigo or claustrophobia, and for pregnant women. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult on the ascent.
