Insider Tips

  • Go Straight to the Gate: Your e-ticket scans at the entrance, so you can walk past the ticket counter queue that fills with school groups on weekdays and families on holidays. Have the voucher open on your phone before you reach the turnstile.
  • Book the Safari Truck With Your Entry: The lions and elephants now live on the safari side and cannot be seen on foot, and same-day safari seats often sell out at the counter. Pick the Safari Truck package when you book.
  • See the Big Cats First: The tigers and gorillas retreat indoors well before closing and hide during the midday heat. Head for their enclosures as soon as you arrive and save the air-conditioned Desert Learning Centre for the hottest hour.
  • Ask What Is Closed Today: The reptile house, aviary and elephant habitat shut for renovation in stretches, and the map does not show it. Check at the entrance desk, then ride the free train between zones instead of walking the full loop.

FAQs

  • Can I cancel or change my Al Ain Zoo ticket?

No. Al Ain Zoo tickets booked here are fixed-date tickets and cannot be cancelled, refunded or moved to another day once confirmed. Pick your date carefully, and if you are visiting in the hot months choose a day when you can stay for the late-afternoon and evening hours, when the animals are most likely to be out.

  • Does the general admission ticket include the safari?

No. General admission covers the walking zones, the free train and the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, but the safari is a separate guided drive through the open savannah where the lions, zebras and giraffes now live. The Safari Truck package here bundles zoo entry, a shared guided safari of roughly 45 minutes and a giraffe feeding, and safari seats regularly sell out on the day, so it is safer to book them with your entry.

  • Is Al Ain Zoo free for children?

Children under 3 enter Al Ain Zoo free and do not need a ticket. Children aged 3 to 12 pay a reduced junior rate for general admission, while everyone aged 13 and over pays the adult rate. On the Safari Truck, children and adults pay the same seat price.

  • How much time do I need at Al Ain Zoo?

The zoo recommends three to four hours for the walking zones, and it is worth allowing at least half a day once you add the free train, the Desert Learning Centre and a meal. Add roughly 45 minutes if you have booked the Safari Truck, and give yourself longer in summer, when you will want breaks in the shaded and air-conditioned areas.

  • Is Al Ain Zoo worth visiting in summer?

It can be, but plan around the heat. The zoo names October to April as the best months, and in the summer season it switches to afternoon and evening opening hours, because the big cats and gorillas stay indoors through the hottest part of the day. If you visit in summer, come for the evening hours, head to the animal houses first, and use the Desert Learning Centre and the shaded lawns to cool down.
