Pick Your Slot With Care: The 9 am entry is the quietest and only starts filling an hour later. The 5:45 pm slot is shorter than the rest, so book it only if nothing else is left.
Drop Bags and Bottles Before You Queue: Anything bigger than a small purse goes into the free cloakroom, and water bottles are not allowed inside either. Hand them in before you join the entry line, not after your ticket is scanned.
Find the Ticketed Line Downstairs: The entrance is below the front steps, not up them, and the pre-booked line runs beside the last-minute queue. Doors open about ten minutes before your slot, so have your ticket open on your phone and check you are in the right line.
Climb to the Paintings Early: Your sticker colour marks a strict two-hour clock. The painting gallery with Raphael and Titian sits up a poorly signed staircase, so go up while you are fresh and finish with the Bernini rooms below.

Know Before You Go

Entry & Services:

The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays, 25 December and 1 January.
Free admission days are the first Sunday of every month, 25 April, 2 June and 4 November; a reservation is still required, free-day tickets are released 10 days ahead and no last-minute tickets are sold on those days.
Children under 18 years are free of charge but reservation is mandatory.
The entrance and ticket desk are downstairs at the front of the building, below the main steps.
Entry opens about 10 minutes before your slot; the final 5:45 pm slot is shorter than the standard two-hour visit.
Avoid bringing large bags; only bags measuring 21 x 15 cm are permitted for entry.
Unauthorized luggage should be left at the cloakroom situated at the museum entrance. The cloakroom is free, and water bottles are not allowed inside the galleries.
