  • The Under-5 Ticket Skips the Audio Guide: Entry is free for children under 5, but they don’t get an audio receiver for the tour unless you also buy them a ticket.
  • Budget the Whole Visit, Not Just the Cave: The guided cave visit leads straight into the museum galleries with no break for lunch, so plan on 2 to 3 hours on site.
  • There’s No Leaving and Coming Back: Once your tour starts you can’t exit and re-enter, and it always begins with the cave, so use the toilets and grab a coffee beforehand.
  • English Tours Fill Up First: Book as early as you can for an English-language slot; leave it late and you may be placed in a French-speaking group instead.
  • Soft Baby Carriers Only: Rigid-frame or hiking-style baby carriers aren’t allowed inside the cave; bring a soft wrap or carrier if visiting with an infant.

  • Are tickets valid for any date and time, or do I need to book a specific slot?

    Tickets are for a fixed date and time, which you choose when you book rather than at the door. Arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled slot; last admission is 2 hours before the site closes.

  • Can I leave the site and come back later, for example for lunch?

    No. Once your visit begins you cannot exit and re-enter, and the tour always starts with the cave. There is no break built in for a meal, so plan to eat before you arrive or after the full 2 to 3 hour visit.

  • Is this the real prehistoric cave, or a replica?

    This ticket is for Lascaux IV, a full-scale facsimile of the original cave and its paintings. The real cave has been closed to the public since 1963 to protect the artwork from damage. An older, smaller replica called Lascaux II also exists nearby; this ticket covers Lascaux IV only.

  • Do I need to buy a ticket for my child under 5?

    Entry is free for children under 5 with a reserved time slot. Without a paid ticket, though, they don’t receive an audio receiver, so they won’t be able to follow the guided commentary during the tour.
