Insider Tips

  • Book an Earlier Time Slot: The last tour of the day tends to feel rushed, and Abigail’s Tea Room may already be closed for tea tasting by the time you finish. Choose an earlier slot if your schedule allows.
  • Arrive Within the Check In Window: Check in opens 15 minutes before your slot and closes 5 minutes before it starts. The full experience runs about an hour, with standing room for two of the indoor segments.
  • Save Your Photos for the Ships: Cameras and phones are welcome in the meeting rooms and on the ship decks, but not inside the museum’s film displays. Get your shots on deck before heading indoors.
  • Validated Parking Only Covers Part of the Fee: The nearby garages discount your parking ticket, but do not cover the full amount. Public transit avoids the surprise at the pay booth.

Rules:

  • Interactive guided tours are led by costumed historical interpreters.
  • Visitors can board restored 18th-century tea ships and participate in reenactments.
  • Original historical artifacts, including one of the surviving tea chests, are on display.
  • Photography is allowed in most public areas for personal use.
  • A gift shop and the Abigail's Tea Room are available for souvenirs and refreshments.

FAQs

  • How long does the tour take?

The guided experience runs about one hour. Check in opens 15 minutes before your scheduled time and closes 5 minutes before it starts.

  • Is photography allowed inside?

Yes, on the ship decks and in the meeting rooms, where you can photograph the reenactment and tea toss. The museum’s interior film and hologram displays do not allow photography or video.

  • Do I need to book in advance, or can I just walk in?

Advance booking is recommended. Walk up tickets are sometimes available, but during busy periods and holiday weekends there is no guarantee of same day capacity, and the wait can run over an hour.
