The Temple of Heaven (Tiantan) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Beijing, built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty. It was used by emperors to perform rituals praying for good harvests. It is famous for its stunning architecture, symbolic layout, and its main building, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests.
The park is usually open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. However, the main buildings (like the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests) open later, around 8:00 AM, and close by 5:00 PM. Hours may vary by season.
A typical visit takes 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on whether you just see the main halls or also enjoy walking around the vast park.
Early morning is ideal, as you can see locals practicing tai chi, dancing, or playing music in the park. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for the weather.
There are small kiosks for snacks and drinks, but it’s best to bring water, especially in summer.
