Insider Tips

  • Collect Free Tickets at the Desk: Only full-price adult tickets are issued online. Book the adults here, then send one person to the ground-floor ticket desk with passports or ID cards to have free or reduced tickets printed for under-6s, EU citizens under 26 and EU seniors.
  • Earphones Out Before the Cloakroom: Large bags and backpacks go into the free cloakroom straight after the X-ray check, and the audio guide plays through your own phone. Pull out earphones, a light layer for the strong air conditioning and a small bag for valuables first.
  • Save the Museum for the Heat: Do the Acropolis hill early or at dusk and the air-conditioned museum in the hottest hours, or on a Friday, which runs the latest of the week.
  • Your Ticket Scans Twice: The excavation under the museum has its own entrance outside. Leave the building, turn left down the ramp and scan the same ticket again, so keep it until you are done.

FAQs

  • Does an Acropolis Museum ticket include the Acropolis itself?

No. The museum ticket is independent from the ticket to the Acropolis archaeological site, so the hill and the Parthenon need a separate ticket. This ticket covers every gallery inside the museum plus the archaeological excavation beneath it, which has its own entrance outside the building.

  • Can you buy Acropolis Museum tickets on site, or is online better?

The ground-floor ticket desk sells tickets on the day, but in summer that line regularly runs long and the desk also handles every free and reduced ticket. An online ticket lets you go straight to the security check and X-ray scanner instead of queuing at the desk, which is where most of the waiting happens.

  • Are Acropolis Museum tickets valid for a specific date, and can I cancel?

Yes, each ticket is valid only on the date you choose at checkout and can be scanned once for entry, so it cannot be carried over to another day. Bookings made here can be cancelled or rescheduled free of charge up to 24 hours before the visit.

  • Can I book child or reduced-price Acropolis Museum tickets online?

No. Online tickets are full-price general admission only; free entry for children under 6 and EU citizens under 26, and reduced entry for EU seniors over 65 and non-EU travellers aged 25 and under, is issued exclusively at the museum’s ticket desk on presentation of ID. Book the adults online and collect the free or reduced tickets at the desk on arrival.
